Day Two:- Log Cabin Construction

So here we are at day two, another longish day. Things are going well, like anything new, the time is in the planning and preparation. Dad and I finished the base this morning and the construction has begun! The instructions from Dunster House are great and easy to follow so it is clearing up any questions. The floor insulation system we are using is NOT from Dunster House. I am posting all the pictures from today, there are a few bread baking picture in the middle, mum has be great at keeping the children entertained and handing us floorboards. I have done a Time Lapse of the whole day but I am battling editing it at the moment, I hope to do it tonight.

Day One Log Cabin Construction

It has been a long day! The cabin delivery from Dunster House arrived at 10am, which gave us the whole day to get started. It could not have gone more smoothly. The delivery driver was really helpful.As predicted we knew the base levelling would take some time... It really did, the base is almost level and square ready for us to start building tomorrow.

The start.... Log Cabin project!

There is going to be a slight change in subject matter on my blog for a while. For over a year we have been saving to buy a log cabin for our garden. The idea is it will be a little retreat from the house when the children have friends round. Or they can go down there… well that is what I have been telling my husband! I am sure it would make a lovely sewing room! 

We have spent many hours on the internet doing our research. At one point we were just going round in circles. In the end we decided to go with a company called Dunster House. We went down to their showroom in Warminster to have a look and were impressed with the quality of the cabins on display. It was also at that point that we decided we should spend more money and go for a fully insulated cabin. It was a hot day and we sat in the 45mm cabin and it was really hot in there, we then sat in the fully insulated cabin and it felt comfortable to sit in. We want to be able to use the cabin throughout the year and getting the fully insulated one will allow us to do that.

In order to get the garden ready for the arrival of the cabin has been a massive project. We had a shed at the end of the garden that needed replacing when we moved in 14 years ago. The cabin is going to be in front of the shed so it was decided that the shed had to be replaced before the cabin comes. That is now done! It is rather sad that I got rather excited by a new shed, the old shed was in such a state and everything in there was just piled up. The new shed is well organised and everything has its place, it even has guttering.

We are going for the Premium Plus and the walls are 130mm thick, this includes the insulation gap.

The cabin will be arriving on Wednesday… I can’t wait to get started.

Sometimes I wish I taught reception or my children were small again and I could justify to myself to make everything from this book. I would have the best play shop area in the country. I made these a few years back and my children had many hours of fun playing restaurants.

Katniss Inspired Huntress Cowl Crochet Vest

My daughter watched Catching Fire ( Second film of the Hunger Games) I just love the cowl Katniss wears in this film. This inspired me to have a hunt on the internet for a pattern for something similar. I found this http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/huntress-cowl-vest. The yarn I used was cheap and a bit too 'floppy'. I also followed the larger size. So next time better quality yarn and follow the smaller pattern. The pattern is really well written and easy to follow. It only took me a couple of hours to make. I think it needs to be worn over a coat.

Crochet Festival Shawl

Loving this shawl, the pattern can be found HERE It was a great patten to follow. I used

James C Brett Monsoon Aran Yarn S7 using a 5mm hook. I don't think I will wear it in a traditional shawl fashion, I will wear it more like scarf.

Elise Shawl

This post is for a young lady whom I found out checks my blog every night, sorry it has been well over a month since I last posted. So this is for you! … You know who you are!

I made this Elise Shawl in super quick time for me. I used three balls of 100g Monsoon yarn by James C. Brett, shade S1 with a 6mm hook. Tomorrow I will show you a few ways to wear the shawl. The pattern can be found HERE

Tilly Walnes - Love At First Stitch - Delphine Skirt

On Saturday I bought Tilly's new book Love At First Stitch, such a wonderful book with so many tips and fantastic patterns. I had a go at the Delphine skirt. The instructions were easy to follow and I was able to adjust the patten to fit my shape.
